Staff Accountant - SSI Companies

South Shore Insurance Companies is currently seeking to fill the position of Staff Accountant. SSI Companies operates a locally owned and operated MGA (Managing General Agent) and independent insurance agency serving the personal and small business insurance needs of customers along the Gulf Coast.

The candidate for this position should be team oriented, but a self-starter, and present themselves with integrity and professionalism, be a clear communicator with a customer-focused orientation. Business knowledge, critical thinking skills and financial understanding are paramount to this position. This candidate will be willing to learn new skills quickly and thoroughly with the goal of advancement and both personal and professional growth. Dependability and initiative are key focuses of the strong candidate.

Functions of this position include:

  • Responsible for maintaining Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable of one or a combination of accounting systems. Prepare journal entries, maintain, and reconcile complex ledger accounts. Assist with balance sheet, cash flow and income statement preparation.

Responsibilities / Duties

General Accounting Functions, including but not limited to:

  • Maintain Accounts Receivable and/or Accounts Payable
  • Work closely with various departments of business
  • Prepare and record monthly journal entries.
  • Assist with bank reconciliations
  • Reconcile various balance sheet accounts for SSIU.
  • Close out accounting periods within AMS and ALIS.
  • Prepare various analyses for SSIU on a monthly and quarterly basis.
  • Other various tasks as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Technically proficient with respect to understanding of U.S. GAAP.
  • Ability to work independently and with little guidance management is necessary.
  • Should be flexible and able to switch quickly from one project to another when dictated by business need.
  • A willingness to put forth additional effort and work extra hours when critical projects arise as well as availability to communicate with people in different time zones are important. A positive, can-do attitude is expected.

Director of First Impressions - SSIA Retail Division

  • The Director of First Impressions acts as the face of the agency to customers and provides a superior customer service experience. Performs routine and moderately complex clerical, administrative and support functions

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Process retail agency communication to provide customer service and obtain information on account questions
  • Process, prepare and submit applications to retail agents to bind new and renewal business
  • Process and complete new and renewal business binding within company management system, AMS360
  • Process and complete endorsements (policy changes) and cancellations, following guidelines presented in training
  • Support the retail team by completing additional tasks as needed, including but not limited to inspection report processing and policy auditing
  • Organize and work with detailed records, maintaining updated files for each insured
  • Maintain exemplary customer service rapport by quickly and effectively addressing any needs

Insurance Producer - SSIA Retail Division

We are looking for a team player to join our company as an Insurance Producer. This full-time position will be located in our corporate office in Foley. A valid Alabama insurance sales persons license is required, with a minimum two years insurance sales experience a plus.

Functions of this position include:

  • Service new and existing clients insurance needs by selling and servicing homeowners, commercial, auto, watercraft, flood and life insurance.
  • Develop base for long-term sources of clients by using referrals, occupational and special-interest groups to compile lists of prospects.
  • Approaches potential clients by utilizing phone solicitation, making presentations at company-sponsored gatherings, speaking publicly to community groups on insurance products.
  • Determine clients’ particular needs and situations by scheduling meetings to determine the extent of present coverage and ascertaining long-term goals.
  • Develop a coordinated plan by quoting rates for coverage and making recommendations for long-term strategy implementation.
  • Provide continuing service by processing change/endorsement requests.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; maintaining personal and professional networks and participating in professional organizations.
  • Enhance insurance agency reputation by accepting ownership of accomplishing new and different requests, and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.

Commercial Producer - SSIA Retail Division

Description:

  • Commercial Producers works with customers to quote and provide insurance for businesses, including but not limited to: Property, GL, Work Comp, Commercial Auto. This position will work closely with the various carriers SSIA represents to locate and secure the best coverage options for our customers.
  • Since Producers work closely with underwriters and the support staff, they must be comfortable working in a team environment with strong communication and time management skills.
  • This position is full time in a fast-paced office environment.
  • Requires strong experience in Microsoft Word and Excel programs. Experience using Mac and PC a plus.
