Worker’s Compensation is a form of insurance designed to cover wage replacement and medical benefits to employees injured in the course of employment.
Currently in Alabama, if you have over five employees, you are required by law to provide work comp. But remember, just because you are not required by law doesn’t mean you don’t have an exposure. For instance, a small A/C repairman with three waged employees is not required to provide work comp coverage, but if one of his employees suffers a work related accident, you can rest assured the A/C repairman (employer) is liable.
